What I like most about Glacier National Park, is the number of things to see just off the road. Going-to-the-Sun Road offers spectacular views, with plenty of pull-offs to take them all in. Fortunately our trip was at the end of September, which meant the park was relatively quiet. We didn't have to wait in any lines, and only missed a few of the pull-offs. The downside of visiting later in the season, is the unpredictable weather. If I remember correctly, Going-to-the-Sun Road closed within a couple of weeks of our visit due to snow.
Lake McDonald Lodge Area
A majority of the morning was spent just around Lake McDonald, stopping at Apgar village, different views along the eastern shore, and to McDonald Falls. We decided it was late enough in the morning to make sandwiches before venturing further along Going-to-the-Sun Road and decided to stop around the Lake McDonald Lodge. There was plenty of open area for Zoey to stretch her legs and get a walk in, before the drive. As well as a nice picnic area for sandwiches. During the open season I'm sure this place is buzzing with activity, but at the end of September, it was a relaxing stop.
