This National Park is especially a must if traveling with your dog. It is the only National Park we have visited so far that allows dogs in areas, other than the parking lots. Dogs are allowed in some of the orchards, but not all, so make sure you check on the rules when you go. The landscapes were mesmerizing, but I would definitely recommend visiting when the orchards are ready for harvesting. The fruits range from apricots and cherries in June, apples and pears in July and August, and peaches in August. Unfortunately, we weren't there in during these times, but they do have dried fruits in the visitor center to give you a taste of what they offer. If you do visit during picking season, they will have certain orchards open to the public and you can walk in and pick your fruits.
Fruita Campground Area
Driving past the visitor center, towards the campground, you will find a wonderful little picnic park that sits next to a small creek making its way to Sulphur Creek. This is also a pet friendly area and all of us enjoyed our lunch here. When you are finished you can stop by the Gifford Homestead and the iconic Fruita Barn.
